Neal has served on many committees over the years including but not limited to the Great War Living History Committee, Elliston Business Partnership, Discovery Shooting Club, Home From The Sea Foundation, Elliston Heritage Foundation, Tourism Elliston and Bonavista Area Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, he wrote a book A Measure of Success: The Story of Elliston detailing the 200 year history of his community and has been called a local historian/history buff by some. In addition Neal has overseen a number of special projects with several groups. One of his more unusual projects was the construction of a First World War trench that opened to the public on July 1st, 2014.
